United Way Financial Independence InitiativeALICE Scholarships
<<< Back
One of the biggest roadblocks keeping ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) from gaining financial stability is the high cost of advanced education. ALICE often lacks the economic resources to pursue extra credentials and training, leaving high-demand jobs, and their wages that would provide financial security, out of reach.
United Way of Northern New Jersey helps families bridge this gap by offering targeted ALICE Scholarships, providing support for ALICE students to pursue degree or certificate programs that prepare them to fill positions in high-demand occupations in our region and earn a family-sustaining income.
Continuing Education Scholarships
United Way of Northern New Jersey partners with Centenary University, Raritan Valley Community College, Sussex County Community College, and Warren County Community College to provide ALICE Scholarships to qualifying students. These scholarships not only help ALICE families offset the prohibitive costs of pursuing advanced education, they also address the high demand for skilled workers in New Jersey industries. Thanks to generous matches from some of our partner institutions, both the impact of our fundraising efforts to support these ALICE Scholarships and the positive outcomes within our region are increased.
